Bayhealth was one of 44 healthcare systems nationwide recently named in the American Medical Association’s Joy in Medicine 2021 healthcare system recognition program.

This WADA award recognizes healthcare systems that have demonstrated their commitment to improving physician satisfaction and well-being through efforts to address work-related stress and burnout.

“We are deeply proud of the hard work and dedication of our Bayhealth medical staff while providing exceptional patient care. We are committed to supporting their well-being. It is gratifying to be recognized for the actions taken by Bayhealth and an honor to be appointed alongside other national health leaders, ”said Dr Gary Siegelman, Senior Vice President of Bayhealth, Chief Medical Officer and institutional manager appointed by GME. “We will continue our efforts to help our physicians thrive, experience joy in their work and, in turn, provide optimal care to their patients. “

Launched in 2019, the Joy in Medicine healthcare system recognition program uses scoring criteria such as engagement, assessment, leadership, effectiveness of the practice environment, and teamwork to assess national health systems. Recipients were selected based on documented measures that reduce burnout through system-level pilots. A national AMA study of doctors and other clinicians during the pandemic found that 38% reported suffering from anxiety or depression, while 43% suffered from overwork and 49% from burnout.

“The recognition program offers a roadmap to guide healthcare system leaders who are interested, engaged and engaged in efforts to address the root causes of burnout among healthcare professionals,” said the Dr Christine Sinsky, WADA’s Vice President of Job Satisfaction. “The 44 health systems recognized this year by WADA are creating momentum in the healthcare community for a united commitment to large-scale change in the culture of medicine that emphasizes the good.” -be professional in health care.
