Blind boy in Odisha spreads happiness with his beautiful song
“Akhira Janama Kandiba pain, Mala jae taara luha sareni” (Eyes were given to cry, tears do not end until death). Anyone can get emotional while listening to this passionate line sung by a blind man.
It is said that blind people really have improved abilities in their other senses. This probably happened in the case of a gifted young man from the district of Boudh in Odisha. He is capable differently; he is visually impaired. Yet his talent as a musician has earned him a basket of fame, even though he has yet to receive government assistance.
Meet Saroj Taria from Gobajora village under the Kantamal block of Boudh district. He was born blind but gifted with the art of singing and the ability to play musical instruments. He is a passionate player of Mridang while he can also quickly play the harmonium to restore melodious and soothing music. Even though he is an untrained musician, he has gained attention and gained recognition instead of his singing abilities.
Interestingly, he doesn’t regret being visually impaired, but rather feels thrilled that he can make others happy with his art. Listeners go gaga and transform his fans after witnessing his performance of the songs.
Although Saroj was born with different abilities into a poor family of parents who work as day laborers, his family did not back down to provide him with an academic education. Having completed his CT program (certified teacher), he is currently pursuing his final year +3. Like many others, the young man aspires to obtain a guaranteed job in the government, so that he can feed his family of five (his brother, his sister and his parents) from their misery and obtain a “Pucca House” .
What is even more disheartening is that despite being a “Divyang,” Saroj and his family have so far received no help from government programs.
Although many letters of request have been written for a permanent home, no active action has yet been taken by the authorities in this regard. Intending to help Saroj and his family, the villagers also showed their support and asked for government help for him.
According to reports, the district collector made sure to provide everything possible. Hopefully he gets what he needs as soon as possible.
