CHANDIGARH: Citing the improvement in the statewide Covid situation, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday ordered a relaxation of restrictions from 150 to 300 for indoor gatherings and from 300 to 500 for outdoor gatherings in the state.
He said, however, that the restrictions of the Covid protocol would be strictly observed despite these relaxations.
Reviewing the Covid position in the state, Channi also asked the school education department to encourage students to attend classes by following necessary health protocols. Likewise, he also called on the Department of Social Security, Women’s and Children’s Development to reopen the Anganwari centers while strictly adhering to prescribed Covid safety standards.
Expressing his satisfaction with the drop in the positivity rate of Covid-19 cases, Channi also asked the health service to ensure strict compliance with Covid safety protocols, in particular the wearing of masks and social distancing. He also asked the Ministry of Health to increase the testing capacity to 50,000 per day as a precautionary measure for the upcoming holiday season.
While giving a brief presentation on the current Covid scenario, Senior Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Alok Shekhar said all 232 cases were reported over the past week with an average of 33 cases positive per day. He further informed that from September 14 to 20, only one case of mucormycosis was reported, while no new cases were subsequently reported.
91% of the population over 60, 77% of 45-59 year olds and 57% of 18-44 year olds were covered for the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination. The state currently has 218,895 doses of Covaxin and 261,860 doses of Covishield.
