Hillsborough County – Make your mental health a priority in May
It’s Mental Health Awareness Month and Hillsborough County has teamed up with community partners to help residents put themselves forward.
What was once a taboo subject has turned into a national effort to raise awareness and provide mental health resources and support.
Hillsborough County wants to make sure residents put their mental health first all year round.
The county worked with several community partners on its Mindful Mondays initiative. Mindful Mondays encourage different ways to put yourself forward, despite a busy schedule.
Based on expert advice from Tampa General Hospital and the Tampa Bay Crisis Center to easy recipes and exercises from the Hillsborough County Healthy Living team, the Mindful Mondays hub is a one-stop-shop for all things self-care.
Here are some ways to improve your overall health and well-being:
• Listen to the experts
Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious or uncertain? You’re not alone. Between meeting the challenges of the pandemic and trying to plan for the future, the past few years have been anything but easy.
Hillsborough County Partners at Tampa General Hospital explain how to reduce the stigma around mental health, where to find resources, how to practice self-care techniques, and how to improve your overall well-being.
• Find help, hope and healing
For nearly 50 years, the Tampa Bay Crisis Center has provided services to the Tampa Bay community to ensure that no one has to face a crisis alone. Crisis Center CEO Clara Reynolds explains the unique challenges children, teens and young adults face when it comes to their mental health, as well as how past trauma can impact your daily life. Of 211 Contact Center In the Suicide Prevention Program, the Crisis Center is accessible to anyone in need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Take care of yourself in the kitchen
Hillsborough County Aging Services provides quick, easy and healthy recipes to promote physical health and mental well-being. This special “Eat Well” series is dedicated to lawyers. Find different ways to incorporate this superfood into delicious meals the whole family will enjoy.
Hillsborough County Staff healthy living program say exercise is one of the best ways to improve your mental, physical and overall well-being.
Get your heart rate up with a quick cardio class or relax with breathing exercises and chair yoga.
• Discover your Zen moment
Have a busy day at work? You want to go out but you can’t close your computer? Hillsborough County brings a bit of serenity to your screens. Explore some of the county’s parks and conservation reserves without ever leaving your living room.
