Hillsborough County – Manifest Mindful Midnights
Question…? Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed? It’s normal not to feel well. Hillsborough County has collected resources in its Mindful Mondays hub to help residents better navigate the maze of positive mental health practices.
You are never left behind when help is there
Too many people need mental health assistance, and sometimes it’s not readily available to everyone. But not anymore. People can call or text 988 or chat on 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support whenever and wherever they are.
You’re not alone, kid
Adults aren’t the only ones suffering from mental health issues and anxiety. Children and adolescents are exposed to the same mental health crisis triggers – sometimes more often than adults due to the extent of their use of technology and their access to social media. But children and teens don’t always have the tools or the language to properly address the issues they face. Learn from the crisis center about ways parents and adults can help children and teens deal with anxiety and overwhelming feelings that they may not be able to deal with on their own.
Self-care is as soothing as the midnight rain
Repeat after us: Self-care isn’t selfish – it’s essential. Self-care is a vital health care tool that can immediately contribute to your mental well-being. It can be as simple as taking a few moments to breathe and relax. But did you know that the relaxation response is not instinctive? It’s something you have to choose to stimulate. Simple self-care exercises can activate the relaxation response which can help reduce anxiety and stress and improve the immune response.
Be the anti-hero a friend may need
Many mental health problems can be identified by several common symptoms, such as sleeping and eating too much or too little, experiencing excessive lows or highs, or withdrawing from family and friends. Being able to identify symptoms that could lead to larger mental health issues is an asset that can help family and friends struggling with their mental well-being. Being able to identify these symptoms and knowing how to offer support plays a major role in addressing the underlying issues.
Salty dishes could be your sweet nothing
The county’s Eat Well, Age Well program empowers senior residents to prepare simple recipes, which can lead them to create healthier meals and improve their overall diet, health and well-being. However, it’s never too early or too late to improve your diet. People of all ages should focus on diet well-balanced meals to improve physical and mental health.
