New staff wellness garden opens at Dewsbury Hospital
A staff wellness and reflection garden has been created with funding obtained through MY Hospitals Charity from NHS Charities Together, to help fund numerous NHS staff wellness projects.
The new garden is designed to provide staff with a quiet and relaxing place away from the hustle and bustle of hospital life. Staff can use it as a comfortable, quiet and secluded place to take a break or have lunch.
The project is one of many made possible by grants to hospital charities from NHS Charities Together, whose most famous fundraiser – Captain Tom – raised over £ 30million in 2020 by doing tricks on his own garden.
MY Hospitals Charity is the charitable arm of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, and its mission is to raise revenue and manage funds to improve patient care, either directly with patients or indirectly through staff.
Keith Ramsay, Chairman of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The well-being of staff and the impact of stress are critical issues for our health service, especially given the demands of the past few months.
“This wellness area provides a safe and peaceful space that our staff can access while working.
“The garden is particularly poignant as it will have been funded by some of the invaluable funds raised by Sir Captain Tom Moore and we recognize this in the wording included on the installed plaque.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped this project come to fruition. “
