Office

NBC Universal

Back on February 27, 2o20, Netflix

NFLX
created his top 10 list. Updated daily, these rankings featured the ten most popular movies and shows on the streaming platform.

For shows, Blind love kicked things off in the first place. Who was followed by I don’t agree with that, so Narcos: Mexico, so Lock & Key, etc.

Then in seventh place was the show that many people even had a Netflix subscription for in the first place: Office.

Two hundred and eighty-nine days later – today, December 12, 2020 – this beloved sitcom is still a Top 10 member. And during that 10-month window, Office was on the top 10 list 177 different times.

And that will be a problem on January 1, 2021, because this is the day when Office leaves Netflix for NBC’s new streaming platform, Peacock.

Think about that number: 177. This means that for the 289 days Netflix has publicly displayed the ten most popular shows on its platform, Office has been a staple food over 61% of the time.

To paint a picture: the closest Top 10 account belongs to CoComelon, a program for young children that is currently going through an insane 107-day streak.

But past this animated juggernaut, Avatar: The Last Airbender holds the third longest total with 61 days. So it’s Ozark with 57 days, then Schitt Creek with 55 days, then External banks with 51 days.

In fact, only eight shows eclipsed a 50-day Top 10 chart count (The Queen’s Gambit notched his 50th consecutive Top 10 appearance today, in fact). Which means that OfficeThe 177-day count completely erases all competition.

Currently, Office got the third highest number of points in 2020 (you can read more about the Top 10 point system here). The sitcom’s 445 points surpass many of Netflix’s most popular shows, including Tiger King, Ozark, Outer Banks, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Umbrella Academy, Cobra Kai-The list is lengthened increasingly.

Which means Netflix may need to replace Office with another show that has those kind of legs. Usually, viral emissions like King tiger Where External banks trend for a while, but then slowly fades from the Top 10 charts. But no other show apart Office has managed to captivate Netflix’s adult audiences for such a long time.

And with the streaming market becoming increasingly saturated and competitive, this is something Netflix may really need to fix next year.
